Garbage
Clean Earth will pick up household garbage once a week. What cannot be disposed of in a garbage bin:
With constant changes to what can and cannot be placed in particular household waste containers, many householders are confused by what should be placed in which bin. This waste container is the bin that items get thrown into when a householder isn't sure if something is recyclable or not. Standard color bins for waste are generally black and green and can be purchased at Lowes, Home Depot, Uline, etc.
So, what can you not put in a garbage bin? General household waste bin isn't for anything hazardous, large, heavy, such as branches, bricks/rubble, pharmaceuticals, vehicle fluids, gas bottles, batteries, paint/paint cans, needles, syringes, LED light bulbs, fluorescent light bulbs, asbestos, electrical waste, commercial waste, cardboard (must be broken down and recycled).
If your garbage bin contains any of the above items, then the collector reserves the right to refuse to empty it.
Search the name of a waste item and Metro will tell you how to recycle or dispose of it.
Please reference Nashville.gov for additional hazardous waste and disposal locations.
Recycling
The quantity of recycled items collected per visit is 192 gallons. Paper, small cardboard, cans, and plastics can be commingled into one clear or blue bag, tied off and placed in the recycling bin. Boxes should be flattened, stacked neatly and placed beside the bin.
Recycling Bags
A 40 count box of 30 gallon drawstring Hefty (blue or clear) recycle bags can be purchased from the City for $14.00 (cash or check only).
