Dear Oak Hill Residents and Property Owners,

I would like to provide an important update regarding storm debris collection following Winter Storm Fern, along with a reminder about the City’s ongoing yard waste services.

The City of Oak Hill has completed storm debris pickup and cleanup operations in coordination with our contractor, Crowder-Gulf. As communicated in the April 3 notice, residents were asked to move storm debris to the roadside for collection. That phase is now complete.

The City will no longer collect storm debris placed at the curb. Property owners are responsible for the removal and proper disposal of any remaining storm-related debris.

Beginning today, May 4, 2026, the City’s monthly chipper service will resume. This service is intended for routine yard maintenance and follows established guidelines. The City continues to provide complimentary monthly collection of typical yard waste, including:

  • Tree limbs
  • Shrubbery trimmings (no roots or dirt)
  • Leaves and yard clippings (must be in paper bags)

Chipper Service Requirements - To ensure safe and efficient collection:

  • Maximum pile size: 15 feet long, 6 feet wide, 5 feet high
  • Limbs must not exceed 4 inches in diameter

Pile Placement Guidelines

  • Keep piles on your property (not in the roadway)
  • Place near the road when possible, without blocking it
  • Keep clear of ditches, culverts, utilities, mailboxes, irrigation systems, and yard fixtures
  • Do not obstruct visibility for vehicles or pedestrians

As the City continues stormwater infrastructure improvements, please keep all debris out of ditches and away from culvert openings to prevent drainage issues.

Contractor Responsibility - If you hire a contractor for tree or shrub trimming, the contractor is responsible for removing all debris. The City will not collect contractor-generated waste.

Bagged Yard Waste Update - Due to changes at the disposal site:

  • Only paper yard waste bags (brown, compostable) are accepted
  • Plastic bags are not accepted

For convenience, 30-gallon paper leaf bags (packs of five) are available at the City office for $3 per pack.

Road Closure Update - Tyne Boulevard

The closure of Tyne Boulevard is necessary to complete critical stormwater improvements funded through a TDEC grant and informed by a City stormwater study. The project includes installation of a larger culvert to address ongoing drainage and runoff concerns.

Due to prior delays from winter weather and other conditions, the project must now be completed by May 30 to meet grant requirements.

  • Full road closure is expected through May 15
  • After May 15, the road is anticipated to reopen to one-lane traffic while work continues

We apologize for the inconvenience and encourage motorists to use alternate routes during this time to help minimize delays.

We appreciate your cooperation and continued efforts to keep Oak Hill clean, safe, and well-maintained. If you have any questions, please contact the City office.

Sincerely,

J. Steven Collie
